On November 1, 2014, at 9:00 AM, as the cooperative running competition came to a close, the opening ceremony of the 23rd Student Sports Meeting and the 14th Faculty Sports Meeting of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics officially began. Accompanied by the exciting commentary of the commentator, the representative teams from various colleges paraded into the venue. They walked in with their heads held high, and their smiles, along with flowers and red flags, created the most beautiful scenery at the university. Before the official competitions began, a skipping rope demonstration was held, where athletes from different colleges presented an unprecedented visual feast to the audience on site.
The plank team event took place in the morning at the National Sports Field. Students maintained their positions on the mats, showcasing their perseverance and willpower. After 2 minutes, a large number of participants had already fallen, but the students from the School of Statistics and Management continued to hold on, ultimately securing fifth place in the team event. In the men's shot put competition, our student Jin Shiyong achieved a remarkable throw of 9.20 meters amid stiff competition, earning second place in this event and giving our school a strong start. Following that, the momentum continued as Cao Yuxin and Yao Yuanhang both advanced strongly, finishing first in their 100-meter heat. At 11 a.m., in the men's 100m final, despite being injured, our student Cao Yuxin sprinted with determination, leading the race and ultimately winning with a significant margin. At 11:10 a.m., in the women's 100m final, the competitors were closely matched, but our student Yao Yuanhang faced the challenge head-on, leading the pack and crossing the finish line first against all other competitors.
The intense men's and women's 400-meter finals kicked off right after. In the women's category, Zhang Ying from the School of Statistics and Management, despite facing unfavorable conditions at the start, made a strong comeback in the final stretch, ultimately crossing the finish line in 1 minute 25.28 seconds, placing eighth and adding glory to her school. Teammate Wu Hongyi followed in the men's competition, showcasing excellent performance in a fiercely competitive race and finishing in sixth place with a time of 1 minute 02.37 seconds. Cao Yuexin and Yao Yuanhang, who performed well in the 100-meter race, secured second and fourth places in their respective 200-meter finals. Yu Yuanyuan claimed second place in the women's 800-meter final, while He Leyuan took the lead in the men's 5000-meter race, finishing first in his group with a significant advantage over the second place, ultimately ranking third. In the most prestigious men's and women's 4x100 meter finals, the School of Statistics and Management achieved an impressive third place for men and sixth place for women.
The college faculty and staff also actively participated in this sports meeting, and on that day took part in the relay race and tug-of-war events. They will also participate in badminton and table tennis competitions next.
