The preliminary evaluation of our college's undergraduate teaching review has been successfully completed

On April 17, 2018, our college held a preliminary assessment of undergraduate teaching audit. An expert group consisting of seven professors: Wang Zhaojun, Zhu Zhongyi, Yue Yaoxing, Han Jingtie, Wang Yu, Xu Dinghua, and Chang Jinxiong conducted the preliminary evaluation of our college's undergraduate teaching. The expert group listened to the college's report, reviewed relevant supporting materials and teaching records such as exam papers and theses, conducted on-site inspections of the laboratories, attended classes, and held discussions with some faculty and students. Vice President Liu Lanjun, Director of the Academic Affairs Office Zhu Hongjun, Deputy Director Cao Xiaoxia, and Deputy Director of the Faculty Development Center Yang Nan attended the evaluation.

At the beginning of the evaluation, Vice Dean Wu Chunjie represented the college to report on the undergraduate teaching situation to the expert group, with all faculty members present during the reporting session. Vice Dean Wu provided a detailed introduction to the basic situation of teaching in the School of Statistics and Management from seven aspects: positioning and objectives, teaching staff, teaching resources, training processes, student development, quality assurance, and characteristic programs, as well as the existing problems and improvement measures. Under the planning of the first-class discipline program, our college upholds the philosophy of "putting morality first, focusing on fundamentals, emphasizing abilities, and emphasizing practical applications," with the aim of cultivating high-quality statistical talents equipped with innovative awareness and practical abilities, and nurturing professional talents with a high sense of social responsibility at different levels and with different characteristics needed for social development. On one hand, the college actively promotes reforms in cultivating top-notch talents and implements innovation in the experimental class construction system, while on the other hand, it seizes the good opportunities of school-enterprise collaboration to create a new platform for innovative education, forming its unique characteristics.


After the college report, the expert group members conducted a comprehensive review of our college's relevant supporting materials, including exam papers, theses, and other teaching archives, in the 316 conference room.


Meanwhile, Professor Zhu Zhongyi, as a representative of the expert group, visited the statistics laboratory, server workstation, and high-speed simulation computing center. Vice Dean You Jinhong and Teacher Chen Ying introduced the overall situation of the college's laboratories. Afterwards, Professor Zhu Zhongyi went to Wu Dong T9 to audit the multivariate statistical analysis course taught by Teacher Wang Xueming from the college.


Next, the expert group held a series of discussions with the college teachers and students, gathering feedback from several teachers and students.


In the afternoon, after a comprehensive review and expert evaluation, the expert group filled out the “Pre-evaluation Expert Opinion Form for Undergraduate Teaching Audit and Assessment of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics” and the “Outline of Expert Oral Feedback,” and provided feedback to the school and the college. The expert group stated that the talent cultivation system of the School of Statistics and Management is well-developed, the training program is scientific, and the teaching plan is reasonable, achieving significant results in talent training and teaching, reaching a leading level domestically. Compared to other first-class universities in the field of statistics in China, the following suggestions were made: first, further optimize the faculty structure to increase the proportion of full professors; second, it is recommended that the school establish an evaluation system that guides teachers to shift from "heavy research, light teaching" to a balanced emphasis on "research and teaching." Regarding the need for equipment upgrades and replacements in our college's laboratories, review expert and laboratory director Han Jingti expressed that he will collaborate with the college to further implement the upgrade work for our statistical teaching laboratories.


Vice President Liu Lanjuan expressed gratitude on behalf of the school to all expert members for their advice and suggestions on the development of the statistics discipline at our university. Vice President Liu highly praised our college's teaching management and talent cultivation work, while also pointing out the strengths and weaknesses in our faculty. She hopes that our college can actively promote the optimization of faculty structure, refine the characteristics of talent cultivation, and, based on the foundation of a first-class discipline, create a brand in cultivating first-class statistical talent.


According to the recommendations of the expert group, Vice Dean Wu Chunjie provided a response on behalf of the college. He expressed gratitude for the valuable suggestions put forward by the experts, stating that the college would work on making revisions and improvements based on the experts' advice.


Party Secretary Xue Liang spoke on behalf of the college leadership. He thanked the experts for their hard work throughout the day and expressed that for the problems in teaching that can be resolved at the college level, the college will do its best to address them in the short term. For issues at the school level, he hopes the school leadership will coordinate solutions. The entire college will work together to overcome difficulties and successfully complete the task of teaching evaluation!


The undergraduate teaching review and evaluation received great attention from the college leadership, from material collection, report writing to meeting organization, with full cooperation across the college, ensuring the successful completion of the evaluation work.
