On the afternoon of May 5, 2015，our school held a commemoration meeting for the 93rd anniversary of Professor Zheng Deru's birth at the School of Statistics and Management. Attendees included school and college leaders, teachers, Professor Zheng Deru's family, as well as his colleagues and students from his lifetime. Vice President Liu Lanjun attended the commemoration meeting and met with Professor Zheng Deru's family; Secretary Tu Tianfeng of the School of Statistics and Management introduced Professor Zheng Deru's life story at the meeting; Director Mao Yongfu from the school's retirement office attended the meeting and gave a speech.
At the commemoration, Professor Zheng's daughter, Fang Sijia, reminisced about her mother's life, and her niece, Li Jie, spoke about the love and care she received from Professor Zheng; Professor Zheng's colleague, Teacher Wang Huiling, described Professor Zheng's hardworking and meticulous work style; students Han Xiaoliang and his doctoral student Li Changfeng discussed their mentor's rigorous academic attitude and pragmatic, innovative spirit in research; participants shared their thoughts on Professor Zheng's achievements during his lifetime. Finally, Professor Zheng's daughter, Fang Sijia, expressed her gratitude in a speech to the attendees.
Professor Zheng Deru was originally from Wujin, Jiangsu, born in 1921. He studied at Chongqing University in his early years and went to the United States in 1947 for further studies, entering the Graduate School of Iowa State University, where he obtained a master's degree (M.A.). In the spring of 1950, driven by a desire to serve his country, Professor Zheng returned to China after acquiring extensive knowledge. He successively worked in teaching and research at Nankai University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Fudan University, and other institutions. After our school reopened in 1978, Professor Zheng returned to the University of Finance and Economics. He devoted himself to teaching for several decades, dedicating most of his life’s energy to the country and its people.
