On the afternoon of September 5, 2021, the opening ceremony for the 2021 freshmen of the School of Statistics and Management was held simultaneously in Lecture Hall 1316 of the School of Statistics and Management and the Cloud Conference Room. The party and government leaders of the college, teacher representatives, senior student representatives, and all new students attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Wang Ti, the deputy secretary of the college party committee.
At the beginning of the meeting, Xue Liang, the party secretary of the college, welcomed the new students on behalf of the college. He led everyone to review the vigorous development of the college against the historical background of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 100th anniversary of the relocation of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. He hoped that the students could find their true selves at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, reflect on the times and history, and cultivate themselves into a new youth with a sense of responsibility for the times and a deep love for their country.
Dean Feng Xingdong introduced the development history of the School of Statistics and Management at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and the splendid achievements made in recent years. He hopes that everyone can avoid various risks and overcome different difficulties in their future studies and work, ultimately becoming an excellent member of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
Subsequently, Vice President You Jinhong introduced the evolution of the faculty and the graduate training program of the college, encouraging students to focus on their professional studies and believe in their efforts. Vice President Wu Chunje provided an overview of the undergraduate training, deeply interpreting the teaching model of professional courses, and expressed the hope that students would learn to be good individuals before pursuing academic achievements. Teacher representative Han Miao first expressed great affirmation and appreciation for the students' choice of statistics, then introduced various application scenarios of statistics in the era of big data, hoping that after making the right choices, students could study diligently and grow into useful talents.
The representative of the current students, Sun Xin from the 2018 Statistical Experiment Class, advised junior students to solidify their foundation and broaden their horizons from personal experience, embracing a fulfilling life to welcome a better future. The freshman representative, Yin Yuexuan from the 2021 undergraduate class, talked about her special connection with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and vowed to stay true to her ideals, study diligently, and make the most of the present day, seizing the colorful moments of life with new promises and new actions.
From September 3 to September 5, our college held a variety of student class meetings, professional education sessions, and course selection training for new students in multiple formats and sessions, focusing on graduate academic norms and moral education. The series of educational activities for new students conducted by our college provided practical guidance and assistance to help students quickly adapt to the new learning stage and familiarize themselves with the learning environment. During this period, the college leadership and new student counselors also visited the undergraduate and graduate dormitories. Thus, the new student orientation at the College of Statistics and Management has come to a conclusion, and all new students will engage in the new semester's studies with enthusiasm.
