On December 9, 2020, in order to better enhance the quality of the training for master's professionals in applied statistics, discuss the strategic development goals of the applied statistics master's education at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and clarify the key work directions for training master's professionals in applied statistics during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the School of Statistics and Management at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics convened the 2020 Annual Working Meeting of the Teaching Advisory Committee for the Applied Statistics Master's Program.
The Dean of the School of Statistics and Management, Feng Xingdong, reported to the members of the Teaching Guidance Committee on the overview of the Applied Statistics Master's program and the development plan during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.
During the meeting, the second term renewal of the Professional Master's Teaching Guidance Committee members was conducted. Dean Feng Xingdong presented appointment letters to the new members of the Teaching Guidance Committee.
After the work meeting, a forum for alumni of the School of Statistics and Management was held. The forum invited alumni from the statistics field, including Li Xunlei, the chief economist of Zhongtai Securities, to give a lecture: "Looking at China's Economic Structure Through Indices." The lecture covered three main topics: indices witness the development of China's capital market, changes in industrial structure through indices, and economic differentiation through indices.
The lecture content was brilliant and the venue was full. After the lecture, Li Xunlei offered knowledge-seeking advice to the young students present, drawing from his early research experiences: One should be good at summarizing and reflecting on the phenomena happening around them, and use their professional knowledge to achieve relevant results.
Alumni also actively ask questions to achieve a deeper discussion through communication.
The alumni forum has successfully concluded. The alumni forum not only provided convenience for the college alumni to strengthen connections and enhance friendships, but also offered a platform for students to learn and exchange ideas. Through interaction with industry elites, students deepened their understanding of various industries and broadened their thinking in statistics. In the future, the college will make more attempts to develop the alumni forum into a series brand forum.
