On March 25, the 13th lecture of the "Industry Forum" by the School of Statistics and Management was held as scheduled. This time, the lecture was given by Xiong Zhiyong, the Director of the Quantitative Investment Department of Shanghai Investment Morgan Fund Management Company, for our students.
The lecture topic was "The Development and Prospects of Quantitative Investment in China." Director Xiong Zhiyong primarily discussed four aspects: an overview of quantitative investment, overseas development, domestic practice, and future prospects. Director Xiong emphasized the current status of quantitative investment development in comparison to that of other countries, pointing out that investment tools in China are still in the early stages. He highlighted issues that need improvement, such as the high costs of margin financing and securities lending and the negative basis of the spot return rates for stock index futures. He also mentioned that as investment tools continue to diversify, quantitative investment will play an increasingly important role. Both public funds and private equity funds will become more reliant on the development of quantitative technologies. This leads to the identification of talent requirements for quantitative investment, which include a background in mathematics, familiarity with computer programming, and a macro understanding and grasp of investment.
During the Q&A session, Director Xiong Zhiyong answered the students' concerns about the demand for talent in the industry. The lecture concluded successfully amidst warm applause.
