On November 29, the first Autonomous Joint Statistical Modeling Competition for Universities (Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Division) was held as scheduled at the School of Statistics and Management. This competition was hosted by the School of Statistics and Management at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, with the Statistical Research Association as a co-organizer. After 4 months of training and preliminary rounds, a total of 7 teams from the School of Statistics and Management, School of Information Engineering and Management, School of Mathematics, and others entered the finals.

The competition not only received active responses from universities such as Renmin University of China, Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Xiamen University, but also received sponsorship from Hangzhou Tongdun Technology Co., Ltd., as well as guidance and support from HSBC, Jiusu Software, Taiping Life Insurance, eBay, and other organizations. In addition, the China Scientific Software Network provided training in statistical software skills to the participants during the preliminary round.

Vice Dean Wu Chunjie from the School of Statistics and Management and Director Liu Siyue from Tongdun Technology's Data Department delivered speeches for the competition. Director Liu Siyue stated that they will continue to strengthen school-enterprise cooperation, providing more practical opportunities for college students. Vice Dean Wu Chunjie expressed that organizing college students to participate in statistical modeling competitions to enhance their practical ability in professional knowledge is a consistent goal of the college in cultivating innovative statistical talents. He encouraged more students to actively engage in extracurricular practice to achieve comprehensive development.

The final was conducted in the form of on-site presentations and interactive Q&A sessions with experts. The seven projects that reached the final involved hot topics related to economic development, such as Internet finance, real estate price pricing, online store behavior analysis, and self-media traffic research. Through intense competition, the project "Multi-Factor Model Analysis Based on Shanghai Second-Hand Housing Prices" by Shen Hui's team from the 2014 Statistics Experimental Class of the School of Statistics and Management won the First Prize in the First Joint University Statistical Modeling Competition (Shanghai Finance Division), under the guidance of Associate Professor Huang Tao from the School of Statistics and Management. The competition awarded two Second Prizes and four Third Prizes, with members of the winning teams coming from the School of Statistics and Management, School of Mathematics, School of Information Engineering and Management, among others.

The expert panel of the competition committee provided feedback on the performances and works of the contestants in each group. The experts unanimously expressed that it is quite rare to apply the learned professional knowledge and modeling skills to practical problem research, even aligning with current industry research hotspots. "This is a high-level statistical modeling competition."

Through this competition, contestants improved their ability to apply statistical knowledge to practical problems and deepened their understanding of statistical theory. At the same time, the competition also proposed new ideas and attempts for the education reform of school-enterprise collaboration and collaborative education carried out by the School of Statistics and Management.
