On September 14, 2017, the selection work for the 2017 Statistics Experimental Class was successfully completed.


Currently, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics is actively promoting the improvement of the collaborative education mechanism and deeply advancing the training of top innovative talents. The School of Statistics and Management is responding to the call for reform in professional education and teaching by actively advancing the implementation of the Statistical Experimental Class project — the Bingwen Plan. The "Statistical Experimental Class" is aimed at cultivating students with a solid foundation in mathematics and computer science, specialized and refined training in mathematical principles, and statistical thinking abilities, complemented by interdisciplinary knowledge in fields such as economics, finance, and management, to develop academic composite talents capable of independently discovering and solving problems. Our school continuously optimizes the training system of the experimental class, striving to achieve multifaceted innovation and capability enhancement, and promote the cultivation of top-tier talents.


The college attaches great importance to the selection of experimental classes, with the Vice Dean in charge of teaching overseeing the process. Relevant teachers participate in the interviews and grading work, and the selection of experimental classes has received strong support from the Academic Affairs Office. The entire selection process is conducted in an orderly manner.


Before the new students began their enrollment, the college had already made efforts to promote the selection of the experimental class through various channels, including the new student platform. At the parent meeting for the 2017 cohort, Vice Dean Wu Chunjie further introduced the admission purpose and training model of the statistics experimental class, receiving considerable attention from both parents and students. The enthusiasm of the 2017 new students was high, and their desire to join the experimental class was urgent; not only was there a large number of applications, but this was also reflected in their performance during the selection process. In the written tests and interviews, most students demonstrated good qualities and abilities, receiving unanimous praise from the college leaders and teachers.


The college held a mathematics ability test at 6:30 PM on September 10, with a total of 118 students participating. During the written exam, it was evident that most students were well-prepared for the test, adhering to the principles of integrity in conduct and examination, strictly observing exam discipline, answering questions earnestly, and fully showcasing their abilities. The college conducted a preliminary selection based on the candidates' mathematics scores and their English entrance test results. Ultimately, 67 new students participated in the selection interview held on the afternoon of September 14. This interview primarily assessed the students' communication skills, knowledge level, and overall qualities. The new students generally displayed an excellent spirit and solid foundational knowledge, confidently introducing their high school activities and achievements to the teachers. The students' courage in expression and ability to present themselves were also recognized by the teachers. In the end, 40 students were selected to enter the Class of 2017 Statistics Experimental Program.

The experimental class program of our institute is planned to be launched in 2014. After three years of development, it has achieved initial results and is currently supported by the school's professional education and teaching reform project - the Bingwen Plan. The experimental class will further promote small class teaching, the homeroom teacher system, undergraduate mentoring system innovations, distinguished teacher forums, summer international exchange programs, research cultivation plans, and the improvement of withdrawal and adjustment mechanisms, as well as explore and reform teaching methods. It will actively and effectively explore a top-notch talent cultivation path for innovative statistics.
