The course selection training for the 2016 cohort of new students in the School of Statistics and Management was successfully conducted.

On September 9th at 6 PM, the School of Statistics and Management held a special training session for the 2016 cohort of freshmen regarding course selection. Since 2013, our school has initiated reforms in general education courses, which complement professional education. A scientific and effective teaching cultivation plan is essential for innovating the training of statistical talents. In order to help freshmen better understand the relationships between courses and successfully select their classes after enrollment, our college organized this training session. Against the backdrop of general education reform, our college greatly emphasizes talent cultivation; therefore, the training was personally conducted by Vice Dean Wu Chunjie, who is in charge of student teaching. All freshmen from the 2016 cohort attended the course selection training.


Vice Dean Wu Chunjie combined his years of teaching management experience and began with general education courses, explaining in depth and in simple terms the course setting structure and development process. He also clarified the differences between top-tier talent, outstanding talent, and entrepreneurial talent for the new students, based on the specific situation of our college. He provided detailed explanations of the characteristics of various specific courses, including mathematics and statistics, economic management, computer science, English, and physical education. Finally, he explained to the new students one by one about the schedule for course selection, the specific procedures for the three rounds of course selection, and the issues to pay attention to during the course selection process.

During the training process, Vice Dean Wu Chunjie’s explanations were witty and humorous, vividly illustrating the points for the new students with examples. The entire training atmosphere was relaxed and lively, with new students taking serious notes on key content, capturing the essence of the training. After the explanations ended, the new students actively asked the teachers about areas of confusion regarding general elective courses, listed courses, and other topics. The teachers present at the training event provided detailed answers to the questions raised by the new students.

Until around eight in the evening, the training slowly approached its conclusion. After a two-hour training session, I believe that the new students will be able to choose their courses more smoothly. Our college places great emphasis on talent cultivation, forming the concepts of cultivating top-tier talent and exceptional talent. We will also continue to carry out a series of related activities to contribute to the cultivation of top-tier and exceptional talent.
