On July 10, 2025, the unveiling ceremony of the School of Statistics and Data Science and the establishment conference of the Big Data Research Institute at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics were successfully held. At this new starting point of development, the college organized alumni who came to attend to hold an alumni symposium, aiming to gather the wisdom of alumni, discuss disciplinary construction and talent cultivation plans, and inject strong momentum into the future development of the college.

At the symposium, Yang Hui, Secretary of the College Party Committee, gave a report on "Alumni Work" to the attending alumni, and Zhuang Mei, Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee, gave a report on "Student Work". Yang Hui emphasized that the renaming of the college is in line with the development of the data science era, hoping to gather the wisdom of alumni and jointly seek new developments in the future of the college. Alumni, with a deep affection for their alma mater, actively offered constructive suggestions in areas such as collaborative disciplinary development, talent cultivation practices, faculty building, and long-term cooperation mechanisms.

Mr. Jin Wenzhong, the president of the Alumni Association of the college, emphasized the importance of establishing a normalized industry dynamic feedback mechanism. He suggested that the college regularly collect cutting-edge information in the fields of alumni to dynamically adjust disciplinary directions and course offerings. He expressed his willingness to actively participate in building a platform for school enterprise cooperation and cooperation, and to promote the efficient transformation of the college's scientific research achievements into industrial applications. Mr. Yang Qing, the advisor of the alumni branch of the college, stated that optimizing the alumni database and dynamic information management is the foundation for accurately meeting the needs, and alumni should actively participate in various alumni activities of the college. As the president of the Beijing representative office of the school alumni association, he stated that he will continue to play a bridging role and help build a closer and more efficient alumni network. Comrade Zhu Mingxiong, the advisory committee member for alumni work at the school, stated that the construction of the teaching staff is of great significance to the development of the discipline, and high attention should be paid to the growth of young teachers. By establishing a special fund to support young teachers to study in excellent enterprises, it is possible to consider setting up the "Alumni Outstanding Teacher Award" to recognize teachers who have made outstanding contributions in the combination of industry, academia and research, and to serve local economic development. Other alumni have expressed that they will actively open internship bases to college students in the future, provide project-based course resources, and serve as industry mentors. Some alumni with investment and entrepreneurial experience also enthusiastically expressed their willingness to participate as investors or entrepreneurial mentors in the incubation and guidance of student entrepreneurship projects. Some senior alumni suggest that a relatively fixed alumni strategy consulting group can be established according to disciplines or key industry fields to regularly provide professional advice from the front line of the industry for major development decisions of the college. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen connections and interactions among alumni to help them achieve long-term development.


At the end of the meeting, Yang Hui sincerely thanked the alumni for their suggestions and long-term support for her alma mater. She stated that the college will carefully review and study the valuable suggestions from this symposium. The next step is to focus on establishing an efficient alumni information management and demand matching mechanism, substantially promoting the implementation of cooperative projects such as the Alumni Navigation Mentor Program and internship base co construction, and actively exploring the establishment of alumni special funds and reward programs to support teacher development. The college will adhere to alumni as valuable resources and development partners, work together to create a more brilliant future for the School of Statistics and Data Science.
