——Construction of ESG and carbon neutrality related data products in the context of sustainable development
On November 23, 2021, Professor Zhou Lijia, the current Data Product Manager of Huazheng Index Data Technology Department, was invited to our college to give a lecture on the topic of "Construction of ESG and Carbon Neutral Data Products under the Background of Sustainable Development" at an industry forum.
Ms. Zhou Lijia graduated with a Master's degree in Finance from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. She is currently engaged in macro strategy, data analysis, fund research, industry research, and other work. She has compiled the Carbon Neutrality Index, Power and Electrical Low Carbon Index, and Bund Financial Development Index, leading research on bond ESG ratings and stock ESG underlying data indicators. In this forum, Teacher Zhou mainly talked about the role and important achievements of index companies around the theme of carbon neutrality.
At the beginning of the forum, Professor Zhou Lijia introduced us to the company situation of Huazheng Index from the aspects of founder, team situation, index cases, cooperative customers, and brand influence. She gave an overall overview of the ESG evaluation system from three aspects, and successfully introduced the application of the ESG evaluation system for risk warning of enterprises. Huazheng Index is the only company with ESG rating qualifications for funds. Professor Zhou Lijia then introduced us to the construction of Huazheng's carbon neutrality evaluation system, including unified data collection, data platform construction, data analysis, etc. This system also considers industry impact and comprehensively characterizes the performance of corporate carbon emissions.
Afterwards, Teacher Zhou Lijia introduced us to structured and unstructured data in data platforms, and provided a detailed explanation on index construction. Against the backdrop of climate change risks, many carbon neutral data products have emerged and climate change risk stress testing models have been developed. Teacher Zhou Lijia showcased one of the carbon neutral data products: a personal/corporate carbon emission estimation calculator mini program, injecting more vitality into the classroom.
During the questioning session, students actively and enthusiastically raised questions, and had discussions with Professor Zhou Lijia about their daily learning and life, as well as the work direction of statistical talents in index companies. Professor Zhou Lijia provided detailed answers to each question. Through this forum, students have gained a more comprehensive understanding and recognition of index companies and the knowledge and skills required to engage in such work.
