01 About Learning and Life
It's interesting to say that when filling out college application forms for the college entrance examination, I applied for statistics with an inexplicable confidence of "learning something hard for undergraduate studies". However, in the first year of competing with math scores, I realized that I couldn't do well in math. While I was struggling, I also found that writing code seemed interesting. I quickly seized the opportunity to apply for transfer to a math class. Although I couldn't escape the claws of math, I also took more favorite professional courses and found my own interest. Now looking at the silver gray collar on the scholar's uniform, the arrow shot from the big shot hit the forehead.
Practice and competition are topics that cannot be avoided by the staff of the National Institute of Statistics. Following the trend and modeling without success, Qiancun died in the midst of the epidemic, thinking that there would never be a chance to win an award again. Looking back now, the fault tolerance of universities is beyond imagination. There are always endless practical activities and subject competitions to participate in. Finally, in my sophomore year, I seized the opportunity of the market research competition and, under the guidance of Professor Li Tao and my team members, created a model project that won the third year of junior high school. I continuously polished myself and achieved good results in the innovation and challenge cups. During this process, I also experienced for the first time the hardships and joys of doing a project.
Later on, after studying professional courses and completing two numerical internships in my junior year, I thought I had a clear career goal. If nothing unexpected happens, it will happen. When I tried to understand the role of data analysis during two internships but failed, I realized that I didn't really like it. So, I decided to switch my application direction to transcoding. However, due to the late decision, I didn't have the CS four piece set of basic courses or related internships, so I had to compromise between applying for mixed IS, DS with CS courses available, and pure transcoding CS projects. In the end, I was able to take CS courses in cornfields as I wished.
In summary, the four years of college life may not be outstanding, but it is still exciting. Although it often takes three minutes of enthusiasm, it can be considered as entering various new fields. It is often casual, but fortunately there is a pursuit and knowing what one wants. It is probably the most important lesson of the four years.
02 About Student Work
In addition to my academic and personal life, student work has become a significant part of my university life. In my freshman year, I joined the College Student Union, the School Student Union, and the Joint Research Association, participated in many activities and lectures, and experienced various "occupations"; In his sophomore year, he remained as the Vice President of the Joint Research Institute and organized two major competitions while coordinating the regular affairs of the club; In my junior year, I successfully ran for the presidency of the Colonel Student Union and was responsible for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. I had close contact with national level competitions and witnessed the birth and growth of excellent projects one by one. Over the past three years, I have asked myself more than once - what is the significance of student work? At the time of stepping down, looking back, it may have been written in a series of planning proposals and Excel files, compressed into a 30GB "36th Creation" folder; Perhaps it's because I stepped out of my comfort zone, communicated with the corporate team about the event schedule, stood on the training stage and said, 'I'm passionate and happy with my aspirations.'; Perhaps it lies in the friends we work with and the happy team building we have time and time again, in a bouquet of flowers and a hug during the summary meeting. Although I often ask myself during the final season of overtime: Is it right to generate electricity for love? Now, it seems that the multi-core processing ability acquired after three years of hard work, the honorary titles such as exemplary individual gained in succession, and the improvement of soft skills such as communication and speech are all rewarding. I will probably choose to participate in it again.
03 About Application
A key step in the application process is to choose a school, and the whereabouts of senior students in the same school can be used as a reference. Students who are transcoding can also take a look at OpenCS and One Acre Three Fen Land. I personally think that being radical in choosing schools is not a bad thing. The sprint match guarantee should form an inverted triangle, and if the guarantee can be maintained, the lottery can be drawn freely. Of course, what suits oneself is the best. Breaking away from the "bar theory" and avoiding blindly following others' opinions, there is no project that is suitable for everyone (except for Hayepsma or orz). Applying is a process of collecting information and constantly refreshing cognition, and a sudden discovery of a niche project may fully meet your needs. Secondly, applying for US sea investment is a strategy, but it's not stamp collecting. The minimum guarantee is not too much, and the selection of schools can be dynamically adjusted by staggering the delivery time. When I received the offer from UIUC, there were still three projects that had not been submitted. At that time, I decisively gave up and continued to apply to take the application fee to have a meal at Hai Di Lao. Finally, mentality is important, especially since the application rounds for DS related programs in the United States are relatively late. It is easy to encounter situations where classmates around you are recommended for postgraduate studies, take postgraduate entrance exams, or apply for admission to the UK, Hong Kong, and New City, while you still have no achievements. At this time, as long as there is no admission result for the same program, you don't have to worry. Even if there is one, there are still many schools in the United States that raise fish until May, and good luck is still ahead.
04 Final Words
During my four years in college, I often thought about things one after another, and many decisions I made with a snap of my head were also called back at this moment. There were not many results, but many outcomes. Regrets were inevitable, but I always told myself not to beautify the road I had not walked. Now I am starting again, the road is long and the journey is approaching. Finally, I would like to express my special thanks to the teachers who have helped me during my university years, my family who have always supported me, NPY who has grown and progressed with me, and my friends who have always brought me happiness. I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you again! I also hope that the younger students who are watching the push can get rid of anxiety, and I wish everyone can find their heart soon.
