At the time of graduation, looking back on my four years of college, I think my undergraduate career can be answered with two key words: "passion" and "responsibility".
01 Because of passion, persist
I used to often think, what kind of person do I want to become? What kind of life is meaningful? I have also considered giving up volunteer service to focus on my studies. But later on, I realized that the happiness and satisfaction I experienced during my volunteer service were something that nothing else could give me. In the continuous service process, I expanded my horizons, thought about problems from different perspectives, and at the same time, I grew and devoted myself to my work. Because of passion, persist, and because of persistence, love even more. At present, the total duration of volunteer service on my second course system has reached 300+hours, and volunteer service has become an integral part of my life.
From 2020 to 2023, the CIIE witnessed my passion, persistence, and growth. In my freshman year, as a member of the Youth Research Project Group, I was responsible for conducting research on the theme of CIIE and conducting interviews with the "Little Leaf" of Shangcai. Through communication with volunteers, I first experienced the significance of young volunteers in large-scale events. In my sophomore year, as the director of the Youth Publicity Project Team, I was responsible for the push and release of the "Shangcai Youth" official account, of which four interviews were forwarded by Xinmin Evening News, Wenhui Daily and Youth Shanghai. In my junior year, as the head of the Youth Integrated Media Center, I truly became the overall publicity manager for the 5th CIIE. From subscription accounts to video accounts, the cumulative reading volume of the "Caiyu Jinbo" theme push has reached 12000+, and the cumulative likes of videos have reached 400 times. In my senior year, I became the steward of the volunteer service team for the CIIE: as a volunteer interviewer, I selected outstanding volunteers for the school and the CIIE; As a Little Leaf Experience Officer, record the CIIE in the eyes of young people from Little Leaf's perspective; As a member of the research support team, I built a bridge between the CIIE and Western children through live teaching; As a small droplet behind the leaves, organizing party and youth activities for volunteers and leaving service silhouettes... Over the past four years, while serving at the CIIE, I have also realized my own life value and gradually understood what kind of person I should become. Volunteer service has brought me not only a reflection of my life value, but also a valuable spiritual wealth.
02 Be responsible and diligent, discover love
The fate between student work and me begins with responsibility. This sense of responsibility is both painful and sweet, urging me to grow in the exploration of the unknown and gradually approach more mature people. It made me discover love in fulfilling my duties and actions, and because of love, I work harder and be more responsible.
From 2020 to 2023, from a small member to a chairman, from welcoming students to student representative meetings, from a new media novice who only knows how to do push notifications to a computer desktop filled with PS, PR, AI, and ID. Entering the doctoral program, celebrating the school anniversary, celebrating the cultural festival, May Fourth... Suddenly assigned tasks, piling up mountains of DDLs, and dealing with endless details... Over the past three years, it may not be hard to say, but it is all worth it. These experiences are all gifts to me. From being timid at the beginning to daring to speak up and express my opinions now, from always being afraid of feeling dizzy and clumsy, afraid of disappointing and angry others at the beginning, to now being able to plan large-scale events calmly. The growth in this process may not be easy to be discovered in the process, but looking back today after stepping down, my experience working as a student has greatly improved my language expression, organizational planning, interpersonal relationship processing, writing and other abilities. Although my identity keeps changing and my job responsibilities are constantly evolving, I still take responsibility as my driving force, constantly discovering myself through activities, improving myself through work, seeking different opportunities, and constantly improving myself.
03 Rushing to Love, Fearless Mountains and Seas
I have had a dream of teaching as a volunteer for a long time. Working at the Youth Integrated Media Center of the school's Youth League Committee made me truly determined to embark on the path of teaching as a volunteer. During the process of reviewing and pushing each article, as well as interviewing a member of the research support team, I learned about many stories of teaching support from Shangcai over the past 24 years since 2009. I saw 85 senior students standing on a three foot podium to teach knowledge, entering rural schools to spread love, using their professional knowledge to broaden children's horizons, and seeing members of the research support team actively serving the public before and after teaching support. In them, I saw the young and well-dressed students of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, who lived up to their youth and knew well, and felt the profound significance of supporting education and poverty alleviation.
Amidst the exciting call to "go to the west, go to the grassroots, and go to the places where our country needs it the most", I did not hesitate to apply for the selection of the research support group. The volunteer service experience that I persisted in due to my passion and the student work experience that I loved due to my responsibility allowed me to pass the interview smoothly and successfully become a candidate for the 26th research support group. In order to better serve the western region, the members of the research and support team and I have continuously experienced and accumulated countless valuable experiences, which have given me the confidence and determination to stand on the podium and head to the western region. We will participate in the Qingma Engineering study together, prepare for the teacher qualification certificate, conduct on-site internships at Sanmen Middle School, hold weekly "Study and Learn" teaching seminars, and organize volunteer service activities both inside and outside the school, such as the CIIE and the Olympic Capital Competition. During this period, many younger students came to consult and wanted to join the research support group. What is the most important thing? My answer is love and responsibility. With love and firm belief, one can transcend mountains and seas.
Finally, I would like to share some insights on the application and preparation of research support groups with fellow students who want to participate in the Western Plan.
Firstly, keep learning. Regardless of the method of recommendation or study abroad, an important prerequisite is GPA. The first requirement for this year's graduate support group recruitment is a comprehensive test score of 30%. Therefore, in college life, learning should always be the top priority. Maintain a curious and exploratory heart, actively broaden one's knowledge horizon, improve one's own quality through continuous learning, and lay a solid foundation for future growth.
Secondly, be good at introspection. Making mistakes is not scary, what's scary is shifting responsibility and repeating the same mistakes repeatedly. When I first joined the student union, I made mistakes almost every day. In the face of mistakes, sincerely and humbly apologize, first find the reasons from oneself, then learn from experiences, and finally learn from mistakes, in order to continuously improve. Through reflection, we can gain a clearer understanding of ourselves, clarify our goals, adjust our strategies, and ultimately achieve self transcendence.
Thirdly, persist in loving. Volunteer teachers are first and foremost those who have love in their hearts, light in their eyes, and are willing to dedicate their youth and passion to the western region. Therefore, the selection of research support teams is not only based on grades, but also on the more important interview process. Seize every opportunity to exercise yourself in daily life, be able to express your ideas logically, and demonstrate your passion during interviews. At the same time, on the journey of pursuing dreams, maintain passion, face challenges with perseverance, and move forward courageously.
