Foreword

When it comes to graduation insights, I have been contemplating for a long time, but still don't know how to write. In the end, I thought that as long as I am sincere, it's good. I just want to share some personal experiences from my four years in college.

That autumn, the beginning of the unification of fate

Looking back at the year of the college entrance examination, I remember it was out of my love for high school mathematics. After combining my own interests, I chose the College of Statistics with the highest proportion of mathematics and computer courses in my major batch. I remember the moment I received the admission information, my heart was extremely joyful. I realized that my college career had finally begun. As time rapidly turned to September 28, 2022, the moment I accepted my proposed admission to the graduate program at Peking University School of Mathematics, I realized that perhaps this was fate's arrangement. Coming to the University of Finance and Economics is the most correct choice I have ever made.

Looking back to the time when I first came to the Institute of Statistics, I was inspired by the diversity of courses and the richness of club activities. In my freshman year, I fully enjoyed the joy of college life. Through the exciting daily activities of the Statistical Research Society, I made many friends and fellow travelers who had been with me day and night during my four years in college. In my course studies, I have chosen a wide range of courses related to politics and history based on my own interests, such as "Economic Philosophy" and "Introduction to the Wealth of Nations", to experience the charm of Western classical political economy through the wonderful interpretations of the teachers. I vaguely remember when I was a freshman, the most common thing I heard was "learn math and calculus well, lay a solid foundation in mathematics and physics". Although I had the intention to practice, I never opened the book "Jimmy Dodich" and just stayed in class listening attentively. After class, I deduced theorems and completed exercises on my own. Fortunately, in my first academic year, I achieved a GPA of 3.6+(second in Data Science), which ignited my confidence in my future professional studies. After repeated reviews, I set the goal of pursuing graduate studies in China.

Without distractions, the road is underfoot

Thank you very much for the words and deeds of my teachers and the clarifications provided by my senior students during my freshman year. During the winter break, I learned about the importance of mathematics, physics, and computer fundamentals, and decisively chose to join the statistical experimental class, thus starting my professional learning career. When I first entered the experimental class, I experienced the pain of being repeatedly rubbed down by difficult courses such as mathematical synthesis, real variable functions, mathematical statistics, and machine learning. I also constantly felt the excellence of my classmates around me and often fell into the dilemma of self doubt. Fortunately, I did not back down at that time, but devoted more time to professional learning. Thank you to all the teachers for their serious teaching and diligent efforts. These courses have improved my theoretical level in the field of statistics, constructed my thinking framework of "from mathematics to statistics, from statistics to data science", and developed my hands-on ability based on programming practice, laying a foundation for my further studies.

04

Diligent in thinking and willing to practice

I remember Mr. Chen Xiru once said, "Statistics is not just a method or technique, but also contains elements of worldview - it is a method of viewing all things in the world." Mr. Ma Yinchu once said, "Scholars cannot study without statistics, industrialists cannot practice without statistics, and politicians cannot govern without statistics." In other words, the core essence of statistics, even if it provides ideas and methods for other fields, as a statistics major student, should strive to go from theory to practice.

In addition to in class learning, I actively participate in competitions and research activities and have won awards in some mathematical modeling competitions. I really enjoy the process of working together with my teammates and striving towards a common goal. Here, I would like to thank my teammates who have worked hard and grown together with me, and thank you for your joint efforts and mutual support.

I would also like to thank Professor Li Tao for his strict requirements and answering my questions during the scientific research training project. It was your patient explanations time and time again that gradually helped me master the standard empirical research paradigm of statistics. I would also like to thank Professor Shi Haibo for his tireless guidance during the completion of my graduation project. It was with your help that I gradually began to be exposed to the forefront of academia.

Without wind and rain, there can be no rainbow

Let's briefly talk about the recommendation season again. For me, applying for recommendation is a cycle of examining myself, familiarizing myself with the applicants, and showcasing myself. In each iteration, I will delve deeper into my strengths, possess clearer methodologies, and become a more confident version of myself. During this period, I experienced the anxiety and confusion of preparing for the April review, the pain of being rejected in the June application, and finally landed at Peking University in September this year. Along the way, I would also like to thank teachers Wu Chunjie, You Jinhong, and others who tirelessly recommended me during the application season. I would also like to thank the college and the experimental class for their training. It is the solid curriculum arrangement of the experimental class and the free scientific research training and guidance provided by the teachers in the college that have provided the most solid support for my application for postgraduate recommendation.

Graduation Reflections

During my four years in college, there were too many outstanding classmates around me who had clear goals and worked hard while they were young. However, there were also many students who felt the anxiety of internal competition at different stages of their lives and bore the pain of so-called "failure". All along, I have labeled myself as having "clear goals" and "strong execution ability". It is not until today, looking back at my college career and sorting out all the gains and losses of the past four years, that I realize that most of the experiences that truly helped me grow and go further were not intentional. These treasures may be scattered in some corner, waiting for your unexpected encounter. Finally, what I want to say to my younger classmates and myself is: if you have already figured out what you want, please don't stop working hard and don't worry about the results of each effort. Just do good deeds and don't ask about your future.
