In order to further promote the cultivation of first-class talents, deepen the training mode of academic top-notch talents in our college, stimulate students' enthusiasm, initiative and creativity in learning, cultivate students' scientific research ability and innovative spirit, the School of Statistics and Management has specially established the "Academic Top notch Scientific Research Training Program". The 2021 Statistics Experimental Class students, after a one-year project cultivation, officially entered the final stage in April this year.


On the morning of April 28, 2024, the final defense of the Top notch Research Training Program project of the School of Statistics and Management was held in conference rooms 1202 and 1208 of the School of Statistics and Management. As a specialized project for personalized training of undergraduate students in the second classroom of our school, this event specially invited teachers You Jinhong, Liu Xin, Wang Gang, Han Miao, Zhang Liwen, and Li Ting from the School of Statistics and Management to serve as defense judges.




During the defense process, students elaborated on the pre project preparation, innovative points, implementation plan, achievements, and other aspects. The judges, guided by the principle of fully tapping into students' initiative and enthusiasm, conducted comprehensive evaluations from various aspects such as student research, material review, question posing, analysis and argumentation, and analysis and summary.


After evaluation, a total of 32 groups of undergraduate students successfully completed the 2024 Top notch Research Training Program project. Among them, Xu Xihe's work "Binary FOX Optimization Algorithm for Feature Selection" under the guidance of Professor Wu Chunjie and Hu Jun's work "Monitoring of Individual Observations of Multivariate Non parametric Covariance Based on Ridge Penalty Likelihood Ratio" were awarded as excellent projects.
In the future, our college will continue to adhere to the principle of "people-oriented" and rely on the Shanghai First Class Undergraduate Construction Leading Plan project to further strengthen the undergraduate training mode of solid foundation and broad vision, enhance students' ability to choose diversified development, and focus on building undergraduate "practical innovation training platform" and "professional scientific research training platform". Continue to implement and promote the undergraduate life mentor system, vigorously support students to participate in various scientific research and innovation projects, and cultivate first-class composite statistical talents.
