In order to further promote the cultivation of first-class talents, deepen the training mode of academic top talents in our college, stimulate students' enthusiasm, initiative and creativity in learning, cultivate students' scientific research ability and innovative spirit, the School of Statistics and Data Science has specially established the "Academic Top Research Training Program". The 2022 Statistics Experimental Class students, after a one-year project cultivation, officially entered the final stage in May of this year.

On the afternoon of May 13, 2025, the final defense of the Top notch Research Training Program project of the School of Statistics and Data Science was held in Room 107 of the third teaching building. As a specialized project for personalized training of undergraduate students in the second classroom of our college, this event specially invited teachers Han Miao, Qiu Yixuan, and Zhou Huijuan from the School of Statistics and Data Science to serve as defense judges.

During the defense process, students elaborated on the pre project preparation, innovative points, implementation plan, achievements, and other aspects. The judges, guided by the principle of fully tapping into students' initiative and enthusiasm, conducted comprehensive evaluations from various aspects such as student research, material review, question posing, analysis and argumentation, and analysis and summary.

After evaluation, a total of 16 groups of undergraduate top-notch research training programs for the year 2025 were successfully completed. Among them, "Research and Performance Optimization of L0 Regular Classification Algorithm for Group Variables" (project members: Lu Hongbo, Chen Zifan, Qin Xiaocheng, supervisor: Luo Sirong) and "Mixed Linear Regression Model Based on Generalized Hyperbolic Distribution with Deleted Data" (project member: Zhang Yihong, supervisor: Han Miao) were awarded excellent projects.

In the future, our college will continue to adhere to the principle of "people-oriented" and rely on the Shanghai First Class Undergraduate Construction Leading Plan project to further strengthen the undergraduate training mode of solid foundation and broad vision, enhance students' ability to choose diversified development, and focus on building undergraduate "practical innovation training platform" and "professional scientific research training platform". Continue to implement and promote the undergraduate life mentor system, vigorously support students to participate in various scientific research and innovation projects, and cultivate first-class composite statistical talents.
